First Cast - First Time?If you're new to fly-fishing, or just want to try the sport before investing in a rod, reel, flies and other equipment, Troutchasers can help. I like working with people new to this sport, or with youths and their parents. We'll work on the basics of casting and fly-fishing well before we head to the stream. This way, at the water's edge you focus on catching trout, rather than on casting mechanics. You'll learn how to read the currents, pools and structure of a stream and how to set the hook, play and land your trout. I'll also show you how to release your catch safely, to grow and become a challenge for other anglers. Beyond the BasicsYou have the gear, you've even teased some sunfish or trout with a fly, but you hesitate heading out on your own. I'll work with you on reading the water, or on casting and fishing techniques - whatever it takes to turn you into a confident Troutchaser. We'll turn some rocks, learn the basics of stream entomology (without the Latin) and choose the flies to match the trout's daily menu. And of course, I'll do my best to put you on some trout, - and help you land them! Ridge-Hopping and Valley CruisingYou can cast a fly, wade a river, maybe even tie a double surgeon's knot at dusk. But you're looking for places to fly-fish - somewhere other than the over-crowded rivers mentioned every Spring Opener in the Sports section. We'll put on a few miles, sampling up to a half-dozen rivers and streams, and we'll mark your map, making sure you can find your way back so you can return and fish them again and again. We'll also work together to help you master any fly-fishing skills you want to improve. In Minnesota for a Few Days?Do you have some time to do some solid trout-chasing. True addict? If you want to chase after trout for a day or two, then let's talk. I'll even supply the gear and waders. |
